This is indeed good news for individuals who often find themselves having to use other computers without their favorite software installed. Portable applications are intended to be installed and run in “stand-alone” mode on external portable devices such as iPods, external hard drives, USB flash drives, etc. So if you run into a situation where you have to have to use another PC (e.g., internet cafe w/ restrictive controls, or you have to use a friend’s all-Microsoft notebook while hanging out in Starbucks), you might find this useful. All you have to do is insert your iPod or flash drive in one of the USB slots and fire away with your favorite apps. This is also a good way to use another PC with peaceful co-existence for as long as you have to use it.
Applications include the following popular software:
- Mozilla Firefox Portable Edition 2.0 (web browser)
- OpenOffice.org Portable 2.0.4 (office productivity suite)
- Thunderbird Portable 1.5.0.8 (email client)
PortableApps Suite 1.0 also includes the following programs:
- AbiWord Portable 2.4.6 (word processor)
- ClamWin Portable 0.88.5 (antivirus)
- FileZilla Portable 2.2.29 (FTP client)
- Gaim Portable 2.0 Beta 5 (IM client)
- Sudoku Portable 1.1.7.1 (puzzle game)
- Sunbird Portable version 0.3 (calendar)
The cool thing about this release is that it includes an Integrated App Menu (where you can also add other portable programs) and a Backup Utility for archiving your documents, even your entire hard drive with a few clicks.
This software runs on the different flavors of MS Windows (95 – Vista) and on Linux distributions through Wine/X.

di sinasadya yun. basta kasama lang siya sa PortableApps Suite. i’ve used the sudoku portable version, minimal lang ang features (read as, limited), e.g., no pencilcase features which is very essential in solving sudoku puzzles except of course kung easy lang ang puzzles na sino-solve mo. i’m not complaining though. at least meron. who knows, newer versions will produce more features eh di mas ok.

Hi enna. Theoretically it is possible to run Portable ClamWin through WINE, although I’m not so sure if it’s practical to do so since ClamWin is a Windows port of clam antivirus which is originally written, AFAIK for the Linux platform.
